Rostering
When we scanned the market, we were unable to find any rostering systems that offered a good solution in an incident management context, where management of shifts and personnel required greater flexibility than your typical enterprise rostering system (where parameters are more predictable).
That's not to say managing rosters in a "business as usual" context is easy. Preparing rosters can be a difficult, time-consuming and manual process. Information can be scattered in multiple places - HR systems, spreadsheets, word documents, whiteboards and even post-it notes! We found these processes resulted in errors and inefficiencies. Changes required manually updating, checking of staff availability and matching it against existing schedules. New schedules were then manually distributed to staff.
While developing OCA's rostering system, we focused on 5 key aims:
